MOTHER COURAGE was amazing!!!!! 9.5/10 recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good bit of Brecht and those who don't but are up for a taste of something new, bold and experimental. If fresh and gutsy gets your taste buds tingling give it a go. Fiona Shaw gives a jaw dropping performance delivering punch and energy with every line, hence it is not surprising she gets to the end of the performance and looks ready to drop dead. Which i class as a mark of a true actress who has given her heart and soul to the performance, my god she deserves a drink after the night is over!! I think my only insecurity about the play was the placing of the interval, 2 hours in then a break then only 50 minutes felt rather unproportioned, it fitted but then something just felt as if it didnt fit, if a feeling is allowed to class as a negative then that is the only one i came across. The only other doubt, which i hadn't thought about until pauls mentioning was the ending. After a zelous high action 2 and a half hours the ending is really rather drained, despite the possibility that this fits with how mother courage has lost everything through war and is now desolate, which is fitting of a rather soft ending it feels a bit unfinished almost. The other people in the play who need complementing are the musicians, not the most catchy of songs at times but wow impressive voices!!
